About the Artist

The Paintings

From the rhythmic grace of the Swan Series to the character-driven Dogs Series, my paintings are more than mere representations; they are full-body studies in personality and form. Whether capturing the hidden expression of eye in Softness Held in Light or the distinct silhouette of a rare breed, or a the emotion in the motion; each piece is a hand-painted original designed to be a focal point in a curated home. While I prefer painting animals, other subjects capture my attention (see Select Previous Works)

The Studio
Operating from a private studio, I am dedicated to the "slow art" movement—taking the time to ensure every brushstroke is intentional. Because I do not offer prints or duplicates, every collector owns a piece of art that is truly theirs alone..

Rembrandt aka Remy, is always in the studio if I am. He was a rescue. It was 9 hours of driving one way to meet him based on just a photo. Upon arrival, we discovered he was an indiscriminate biter. That was several years ago. He still bites, but more discerningly and never immediate family. ;) He is a bit of a hermit as am I and He is greatly loved! I am the stereotypical "Hermit" artist. But I am also a great animal lover. Having animals around me from a very young age has informed my art study in a way nothing else could. Currently, I have Remy (above), Two Dobermans, and Four Horses. As well as more transient vistiors: Great Blue Heron, Ducks and other waterfowl, 20 Species of Songbirds, Box, Red Ear & Snapping Turtle, Frogs, Toads, the lesser appreciated Snake(s), White Tail Deer, Hawks, Eagles, Vultures - Foxes and Coyotes. Neighboring Geese, sheep, cattle, goats, peacocks, donkeys and even an Emu! Don't even let me start on the trees, flowers and grass species! After my last feline friend passed away, the dogs wouldn't allow me to have another - not without complete chaos in the house!

The Philosophy
My work is an exploration of texture, light, and the singular spirit of my subjects. Specializing in one-of-a-kind oil paintings, I focus on the "singular" moment—capturing a scene or selected emotion. By working exclusively in oils, I utilize traditional impasto techniques and layered glazes to create depth and movement that breathes life into the canvas. "inspired by fauna and flora, my art focuses on the expressive power and joy of both. I try to capture those fleeting moments that reveal the spirit of God's creations. I hope each brushstroke brings you a sense of harmony and quiet reflection in the midst of your busy life" L R Wright
