The idea of "what do I paint" always crosses an artist mind. There are so many options! The thought of painting swans was not a new one for me. They have always captured my attention whether I was travelling, reading, or looking at works of art. They are fascinating creatures to see. It's not that difficult to capture their beautiful plummage as far as painting with oil and brush. But to me, what IS difficult to capture is the sense of freedom, grace and their seemingly effortless expression of being in perfect harmony with the world at large. They exude a rather intimidating level of confidence - and I find it absolutely charming. A little bit of a gripe: Swans are protected in most every developed country. Really they are as revered as protected. Except in the United States. I cannot fathom why... Oh, by the way, I am especially fond of the Mute Swan as depicted in my oil paintings. How about you?
